Why I Think Selflessness is So Important

As you guys know, or might not know (in that case I would gladly tell you), we live in this planet called Earth. Thing is, we don't live here alone, or with just a few family members, neighbours, or other people who are physically and mentally close to us. We live here with a lot of people. 7 billion in that respect. And because we have more human from time to time inhabiting this Earth, competition grows within us. And with competition, comes ignorance. We feel the need to care less about the people who don't matter to us directly. Individualism.

Most of us are overshadowed by the notion that if we give room to care about somebody else (who is in need of care) then we would have less room for ourselves and therefore we might lose this so called "competition" because our contenders might not think about other people. So then the "logical" move would be to not let that happen because of course we want to win the competition.

But to be honest, I don't see it this way. Being "the number 1" is never a supreme goal to me. I know that it's good to see yourself on the top-step of the podium. I know how good it feels to be able to be seen as a better individual by other competitors. But I also know how it feels to not be able to accomplish that, especially when I've tried so hard. I know how it feels to fall into the horrifying abyss that is failure itself. And it's at that very moment that I hope somebody was there for me to lift me up. Somebody who would rather leave his priorities to be able to just pat me in the back, look me in the eyes, and say "Hey, everything will be absolutely fine. No worries, mate.". And for that very reason, I think being selfless is as important as being inconsiderate.

Our ego is important. We need it to be able to push ourselves towards the limit and un-limit it. But we also need to take a look at those people below us every once in a while. We have to able to empathise for them. And by "people below us" I don't always mean those who aren't as successful as us. It could also mean those who aren't as lucky as us. Maybe they got hit by a hurricane, maybe they just happen to be born in a country that is at war with another, maybe they lost their family members because of something they couldn't control. We need to look out for those people as well.

I'd like to close-off this blogpost with a quote. A motivational author and speaker named Tony Robbins once said this: "Only those who have learned the power of sincere and selfless contribution experience life's deepest joy: true fulfillment"

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Speech Script: Being an Introvert

Hey, Guys. I thought I'll share another speech script today. I used this script when I was competing in a competition held by a Senior High in Bantul, Yogyakarta Special Area. I got 1st in that competition so I think this one is pretty good. And I also wanna say that in this speech script I slipped in a little personal story of mine. So it's gonna be a little hard if you're going to copy it haha... So here you go. I’ve always felt that I’m different compared to most people. At least compared to most students in my school. On break time, they like to gather in groups and gossip about someone or chat about the current trends. I prefer not to. If I necessarily have to get involved in a group chat outside my class, I always try not to do the unnecessary. Not to talk too much. Some people say that I’m shy and weird. Some even say I’m arrogant and antisocial. The truth is, I’m an “introvert”. So ladies and gentlemen, the honourable judges, and my fellow competitors, this morn...

Do you take notes in class?

Hi! It's been a hell of a long time, hasn't it? But here I am, finally back again. You know those people who make Blogs, writes on them, until they finally get either tired or bored or busy and their Blog gets deserted like the most quiet part of the Sahara? Well the first time I decided to make this Blog I was determined to not become that type of person. Anyway, I'm not really into a deep, philosophical talking right now. I'm in a more of a trivial mood if there even is such a thing. And in having this mood, a question just hatched at the top of my head. Do you take notes in class? I mean seriously. Do you take notes when you're studying or do you make notes of what your teacher writes on tho front board? Because I do. But I never revisit my notes. I have a number of friends that like to take notes of everything that has been either spoken or written in class. Some of them even go to extensive methods when it comes to note-taking e.g. buying expensive statione...

Fear & The National Finals

Fear. That thrilling sensation triggered by your brain that goes down your spine and from there, it swarms every centimetre cubic and square of your flesh and skin. That unsettling feeling translated into a consistently rapid heartbeat. It's one of those set of letters that you definitely don't want engraved in your mind. It's that thing that you don't want infecting your thoughts and ideas. It is the very embodiment of "not good". And those words above are probably an exaggeration. But let's be honest, some of it is definitely true and worth nodding your head towards. Whilst I am writing this blog, I am feeling fear. It has little to do with the blogpost itself. But it has everything to do with the Junior High School's national finals that is to be conducted on Monday, nationwide throughout the whole Indonesian archipelago. And you might wonder, what's so frightening about an exam? I mean, towards a certain extent, and to some people, it is sl...
